Web Copywriting: How Different Is It?

post time 21. July 2008 member admin

Is web copywriting any different than traditional copywriting? Yes, in a word, it is.

When you write traditional sales copy you are writing to close the sale and that is not different. Closing the sale online is every bit as important as closing the sale in print. And the principles involved in writing copy to sell are the same online as they are off line. You are still using trigger words and trying to get people to respond to a call to action. But that’s where the similarities end.

Online you are writing for two audiences, even when you are writing to sell. You are writing for your human visitors who will respond to your copy and you are writing to the search engines who will crawl and index your content for it to be found. You cannot forget either audience. While your trigger words and call to action are important online - just as important as they are off line - you must also think about what your keywords and key phrases are so that you can rank your sales pitches properly in the search engines. That adds an extra challenge to the equation that off line copywriting doesn’t have. Don’t you think you should have a professional writing your copy who understands how to appeal to online shoppers?

Search Engine Optimization: The Magic Formula

post time 20. July 2008 member admin

There is no magic formula to search engine optimization. I’ve talked to more than a few small business owners who still don’t understand the importance of search engine optimization or what it is supposed to do for them. One man told me recently that he thought you had to pay for top listings in the search engines. Sorry, but no.

You do have to work hard, though. The only costs associated with search engine optimization are what you pay to your service provider to guide you to where you need to be to achieve those listings.

When you achieve top rankings for your keywords you’ll get a real feeling of joy. Don’t think there is some magic formula. There isn’t. Many so-called gurus will try to make you believe that there is. But at the of all search engine optimization is the understanding of search engines and how they work. Once you can get a handle on that (and it’s not easy) then you can present the information on your website in such a way that you achieve the best results. And that’s really all that search engine optimization is.

3 Characteristics of Great Press Releases

post time 17. July 2008 member manager

When it’s time to promote your business, you can’t beat the power of great press releases. When you are able to effectively write and distribute press releases both online and offline, you’ll enjoy major marketing benefits. You’ll be able to introduce your products and services to many new people, including future prospects and referral sources. You’ll also build your company’s image and help create an increased number of back links to your website, which will boost your organization’s rankings in the top search engines.

What Makes Great Press Releases?*Proper Style – Press releases should be fact based and written in an informative, journalistic tone. If you send out press releases that are too sales oriented or that are filled with broad, sweeping statements that aren’t verifiable facts, they’re not going to be well received.

*Interesting – Nobody wants to read a boring press release. While you need to make sure to avoid editorializing in your press releases, it’s essential to make sure that the content is interesting and useful. No one will read or run press releases that are filled with dull information or rehashed information that’s already widely known and publicized.

*Proper Form – Make sure that any press releases you write and send out are in proper form. Different types
of media outlets have different preferences. Before submitting press releases to television stations, radio stations, newspapers, and web news resources, make sure to educate yourself about the proper way to format news releases for each type of media outlet.

Quality Web Design and Development Matters

post time 14. July 2008 member manager

Most business owners and managers know that having a website is essential in today’s economy. However, many people who own and operate businesses don’t understand that there is a lot more to having a good website than just making sure you have an online presence. Using quality web design and development is essential for anyone who wants his or her company’s website to actually have a positive impact on the bottom line.

All web design and development is not created equal. If you don’t know the ins and outs of what separates a good website from a poor quality one, it can be easy to be fooled by so-called developers who promise to get a web site up and running for you for little or no investment. As with everything else, when it comes to web design and development, it’s a fact that you get what you pay for. Unless you have a need for a complex ecommerce site, there’s no reason to pay a fortune for a good website that can have a positive impact on your company’s profitability.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that there’s a big difference between selecting a website that’s a good value versus selecting one that’s “cheap”. If you go with the cheapest possible option, it’s likely that you’re going to end up with a web page that serves no positive purpose in your marketing plans. If you’re lucky, it will sit there and do nothing. If you’re less fortunate, people will go to it, see the poor quality, and decide that your company isn’t sufficiently professional.

Make sure that your company’s website is created by people who really are web design and development professionals. They know what they’re doing, and you’ll end up with a fully functional site that sends the right message about your business while helping new prospects find your company online.

The Importance of Unique Content for Search Engine Optimization

post time 10. July 2008 member manager

It’s true that content is king on the Internet, and there are a lot of different reasons for this fact. If you want to make sure that your website is properly optimized so that you earn top search engine ranking in relevant keyword searches, it’s essential for you to update the content on your website frequently. Adding new content alone, however, isn’t sufficient to ensure effecitve search engine optimization. You need to update your website with unique content to avoid being hit with a duplicate content penalty by the search engine algorithms.

There are plenty of websites where site owners can go and find free articles for reprint to use to update their websites and blogs. However, this content isn’t unique. Once an article or other document is published on one website, any time the same material goes up on another site it represents duplicate content. This doesn’t mean that the information isn’t useful or that reprint articles are inherently bad. What it does mean, however, is that publishing reprint articles on your website isn’t going to help you in terms of search engine rankings. In some cases it can even hurt you.

The best way to earn positioning at or near the top of relevant searches is to update your website regularly – at least three times every week, with content that is not duplicated from any other source. Whether you write your own content, purchase it from a writing service, or hire a ghostwriter, updating your site with unique material on a regular basis is one of the most powerful search engine optimization techniques you can use.

Effective Web Content Writing Tips

post time 9. July 2008 member manager

Are you getting ready to update the content on your website? It’s important to keep in mind that web content writing is its own unique skill. It is, of course, important to follow the standard rules for language usage, sentence structure, and proper grammar. However, to write effective web content, it’s important to follow basics tips for web content writing, in addition to what you already know about effective business writing.

Write with SEO in Mind
In addition to writing informative content that people want to read, web content writing must also focus on what search engines are looking for. When Internet users run searches, the search engine algorithms utilize a complex calculation to determine which websites are relevant to the particular search being run. You need to pay attention to what types of searches people use to look for the types of products and services you sell. Once you have that information, then you need to incorporate the phrases you discover into the content on your website. That’s an important component of effective web content writing.

The Fine Line Between SEO and SPAMMany people who engage in web content writing either don’t pay enough attention to the necessity to include high search key phrases, or they go overboard. When checking your site for relevancy, if the content gives the impression that your site isn’t top quality or that the content is structured to trick search engines, it will be penalized in the search engine rankings. Therefore, while it’ important to include the right types of key phrases, it’s essential not to go overboard. Don’t make the mistake of using the same key phrase over and over in your web content. Too much terminology reputation crosses the line between effective SEO and web content writing that comes across as SPAM.
